The next project I'm posting about was the final project done in Textiles. That was an awesome class. I need to continue studying everything we studied, it's amazing how many fabrics are out there! We got to find a really unpleasing, depressing, or in other words UGLY picture of an interior space and give it to another person in class to fix and create a more pleasing, beautiful, or in other words AWESOME space. We had to pretend the other girl was our client and interview her to find out her style. And because it's a textiles class, every textile had to be durable and acceptable for the space. On each sample there is an information card that says the manufacturer, name of the fabric, fiber content, durability, and finish information/suggested after-treatment.
Isn't she darling? Yeah, a beach cottage on the Oregon coast, in my dreams. It was so fun picking out fabric samples for this project because I was able to play with blues and creams and whites, which are my favorite colors.
Here's the final product! It breaks down like this: (Top left) Drapery, I wanted it transparent so she'd be able to look out and see the ocean and also reflect the sand on the beach. (Bottom left) Armchiar, I wanted to bring in some pattern while keeping the all the colors and style breezy and relaxed. (Top right) Wallpaper, I chose this because we could only deal with textiles and not paint so I picked this really durable, fire resistant textile. It still keeps the style and also allows the room to stay naturally bright and relaxed. (Bottom right) Settee, I loved this one. Neutral yet comfy and very durable. Who wouldn't want to sit on that to get ready? (Middle top) Bedspread. I nearly died when I found this one. Ralph Lauren is so great and chic. This brings in the feel of the ocean waves, yet keeping it chic and refined. To tie it all together I selected quilted, embroidered pillows. Now just imagine every furnishing in the UGLY picture is replaced with the fabrics I selected, and voila!
Overall, this was a fun project. I'm so glad I've been able to learn about this subject. Not only will it help me in my profession, but also in life. TY interior design program!

Meagan
