Anyway, today I'm posting about the AutoCAD final. We got to design a Disney Cash Wrap (cash register) display, which included the actual cash register table and the display behind it. I chose Beauty and the Beast. I love historical design and also I just love France a LOT so it was perfect! (And yes, I love Belle too, that's a known fact. We're like the same person....I wish.) I wanted to re-create the ballroom and also incorporate the rose into the design. I gained inspiration from the following pictures:
This one I used for my main design. I liked the paneling and the three framed pictures on the back wall. But for my purposes I wanted to replace it with stained glass, which would be lit by task lighting behind it. For the actual registers I designed paneled boxes for the outside of it to match the wood paneling.
I love this scene in the movie and so I wanted to incorporate the feel of it into the cash wrap. I copied the pillars and draperies into the back display.
Here are my drawings:
This is the floor plan. (You can click on the image to enlarge it.) It was set in the 1/4"=1'0" scale. the circles on the sides are the pillars. The front desk had to stay the same but everything else could be our own original design. I kept the front desk the same exact dimensions and placed a back desk for storage and counter space. The frames would be right above the back storage cabinets.
Here's the front cash wrap. There are cherry wood paneling which covers the whole front of the desk and also the actual cash registers. I drew the candlesticks because not only is Belle my favorite character, but Lumiere is too.
Here's the back wall display. This is my pride and joy. The back desk is covered in cherry wood paneling with cabinets inside for storage. The stained glass is framed above it. The pillars are on each side. My overall thought was to make it seem like the customer was looking out the ballroom into the night light Belle and the Beast did. *The hopeless romantic in me is showing.*
For the last part of the assignment we had to make a section, which helps show the inside view of a piece of furniture. For my section I drew the front desk cabinet with the register.
Overall, I loved doing this assignment. I loved designing an old, antique feel into a modern space. One day I hope to do that as my job; create or renovate places that have historical importance and make them how they were originally in their day. We shall see...
