I thought it would be a good time to post about some of my projects. Most of the projects I do are in a class called Color Theory, but I have projects in every one of my designing classes.
This was my first project. The project is called Historical Style and Color. We were able to pick a certain time era, so I picked Country French naturally! This era is simple yet elegant. It was mainly inspired by the colors and textures of the French countryside, and the love and respect of traditions. The heart of the style focuses on harmony, scale, balance, and what feels right in the space. I loved looking up pictures for this. Once I can start on my own, I'm definitely sneaking in some French furnishings!

"The magic of French Country style comes from the mix, you have to walk into a room and think, gosh, I never expected this."

This is called Neutralization. We had to create three separate 7-step scales starting with a pure color (Red, Orange, and Yellow), and ending with pure colors complement (Green, Blue, and Purple). We then combined the colors in even steps until we got a dulled brownish-gray mixture in the middle. The center neutral should be almost identical for all three complementary pairs. Man this was a tough one. I think my roommates thought I was having a mental breakdown. Now they're used to it.
This is called a Value Scale. We had to create a gray scale and a color, so for color I choose blue, naturally. The gray scale is 8 steps and the blue is 10 steps. The whole point of this was to see how each color transitions. Tricky but suthper fun.
This assignment is called Harmony. We created two different color schemes, this is Monochromatic and the one below is Tetradic Complement (or Double Complement), for two different rooms of our choice. I liked doing the Monochromatic scheme the most because I'm more of a neutral kind of gal. "White is right" as my friend used to say. I decided to challenge myself with the Double Complementary. I actually really struggled with it. Well my teacher liked it so I guess it worked out! (By the way, I got this amazing label maker. It seriously saves my life every time.)
Here's my first big time board. It's called the Healing Master Bedroom. We got to choose a picture from nature that inspires us, so I chose a picture from Bryce Canyon National Park. It has always been one of my favorite places since I've visited it with my family a couple years ago. So once we figured out our favorite picture we then had to pull all the colors from it and create a master bedroom with the color palette we created. I struggled with this because of all the reds and oranges going on. I didn't want it to seem too feminine so I brought in the masculine side through some of the furnishings. I was actually able to have my mom send me a picture that we took from Bryce Canyon for the artwork. It's our favorite picture.
Well that's all I've done so far! The other projects are either done on PowerPoint (ew) or in my Drafting class, which is basically making different kinds of blue prints.
XOXO,
Meagan
It all looks beautiful. I'm dreaming of the day when I get to hire you to fix all my decorating mishaps. I especially need the 80 floral wing back chairs redone. Love ya, Mom
